This little one is quite special in my opinion, I have not been able to find out what her name is, and the artisan is shrouded in mystery as well. I know their name is Tsuneyuki (常幸), but I cant’t find much information on them anywhere either.
This lovely Kokeshi’s brown kimono is covered in chrysanthemum blooms in red and yellow, known as kiku (菊) in Japan. According to some sources on the web, the kimono is reminiscent of Princess (now Empress Emerita) Michiko’s kimono but I was unable to find an image that substantiates that statement (but it’s interesting enough to mention here).
The chrysanthemum was introduced to Japan from China between the 5th and 8th century CE, and has become a revered symbol in Japan.

- A 16-petaled chrysanthemum serves as the official emblem of the Imperial Family and the Japanese government. The Emperor’s position is literally referred to as the Chrysanthemum Throne

- Because of its radiating petals and ability to bloom into late autumn, the flower represents the sun, joy, good fortune, and a long, healthy life
- The flower is associated with the virtues of Bushidō (武士道), the way of the warrior (Samurai code) embodying loyalty, honour, and grace under pressure
